That was as close as they got though as a late Kieran Hanrahan goal sealed the win for Loughrea.

Goals proved decisive for St. Thomas’ as they defeated neighbours Craughwell by 4-18 to 0-19. An Eanna Burke goal helped them into a 1-10 to 0-9 half-time lead, and a brace of goals from the in-form Victor Manso settled the contest in the second-half.

His goal helped the West Kerry club into a 1-6 to 0-8 half-time lead and they looked like they might win comfortably enough when a Tom O’Sullivan point saw them move six clear after 55 minutes. But Mid Kerry reduced the gap to three and Dingle had to survive a couple of goal-mouth scrambles before they finally secured victory. Aside from Geaney, Dingle’s most influential player was Geelong Cats AFL star Mark O’Connor who was a dominant figure in the middle third of the pitch.

Joe O’Connor was at his inspirational best as Austin Stacks defeated Rathmore by 1-16 to 1-9. He scored 1-4 from play and was the dominant force in the middle third of the pitch. His late two-pointer helped the winners into a 0-8 to 0-4 half-time lead and Rathmore were dealt another blow when Paul Murphy wasn’t fit enough to return for the second-half.
