Members of Burrishoole GAA Club

Pat Collins, Frank Mulchrone, Peter McManamon and Gerard McNulty discuss their involvement in Burrishoole GAA in Newport. They talk about the history of the club and the place of the GAA in the community over the years. They describe their earliest memories of the GAA and the role of the Association in their lives. Frank talks about going to St. Jarlath’s College in Tuam, Co. Galway, the importance of the GAA in that school and getting involved in the county team at underage level. They discuss the running of the club and how a man named Peter Moran kept the club running during the 1960s and 1970s. They describe the structure of the West Mayo Championship and note the club’s success at intermediate level in 1966 and 1992. Peter talks about his involvement as selector for the 1992 team. They recall the various methods of transport used to carry people around the county for matches and the changes over the years. The history of the club is discussed as is the story of the club’s colours and crest. Towards the end of the interview the men talks about the importance of the GAA to their lives and the role the club plays in the community.
