Ryan moves to the top of hurling scoring charts
Dublin's Paul Ryan has moved to the top of the scoring charts for the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship after the weekend's action.
Ryan overtakes long-standing leader Patrick Horgan (Cork) with his haul of 0-9 in Dublin's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Tipperary.
The Ballyboden St Enda's man hit exactly half of Dublin's total to reach 2-47 (0-53) and move six clear of Horgan (3-38, 47), whose Cork side are long out of the Championship.
Ryan is now the overwhelming favourite to finish top of the pile at the end of the year, as Eoin Kelly (34), Lar Corbett (30) and Henry Shefflin (28) are the only other players currently in the top 10 due to play in the All-Ireland final on September 4.
Kelly, for example, would need an unprecedented haul of 0-19 in the final to overhaul Ryan. The biggest personally tally in an All-Ireland final over the last 25 years is the 2-12 (18) Tipperary's Nicholas English scored in the 1989 decider against Antrim.
The other big movers after the weekend are Tipperary pair Kelly and Corbett, who have jumped up the charts to fifth and sixth respectively.
Kelly's haul of 0-6 sees the Tipp captain move up five places with 4-22 (34), while Corbett's 1-3 leaves him one place further back on 7-9 (30).
Corbett's goal was the 26th of his Tipperary career, meaning he moves five clear of Kelly as the Premier County's all-time leading scorer in the Championship.
