Liam 'Chunky' O'Brien RIP

Kilkenny hurling legend, Liam 'Chunky' O'Brien.

Kilkenny hurling legend, Liam 'Chunky' O'Brien.

Kilkenny GAA is deeply saddened today on hearing the sad news of Liam ‘Chunky’ O’Brien’s death.

He was an immense hurler for Kilkenny winning four All-Ireland titles in the 1970’s, seven Leinster titles and one National League title.

He also had a stellar career with his club James Stephen’s winning four Kilkenny SHC titles and two All-Irelands.

O’Brien’s individual excellence was recognised with four All-Star awards, three at midfield, one at left half-forward, and a Texaco Hurler of the Year award in the 1970s.

Kilkenny GAA extends it’s deepest sympathies to his family, friends and the James Stephen’s Club at this sad time.
