Westmeath will play Kerry in the Allianz League Division 2A decider regardless of results next weekend, after their 1-20 to 0-20 win over Meath at TEG Cusack Park this afternoon eliminated the Royal County from contention. Robbie Greville fired in an early goal for the home side and when Alan Douglas was red carded after 16 minutes, they looked well-set to drive on and secure a comfortable win in this local derby fixture.

However Meath hung in well, fighting for their promotion chances, and with Jack Regan in superb form from frees, he kept his team in touch. Regan finished the day with 0-8, including a superb sideline cut, but some superb late scores for Greville and Ciarán Doyle wrapped up Westmeath’s fourth win in four starts in this campaign.

Kerry were far more comfortable at Ruislip yesterday as Jack Goulding, Padraig Boyle (penalty) and Dan Goggins were the goalscorers in their 3-27 to 1-11 win over London.

Goulding scored the opening goal and earned the penalty that put Kerry nine points up after just 15 minutes and a flurry of points from Boyle and Michael O’Leary made it 2-13 to 0-6 at the break. London continued to battle manfully after half time, even after Kevin Reid was sent off, and they got a crumb of comfort when Conor Allis fired in a late goal.

Antrim eased any lingering relegation concerns with a 5-18 to 0-13 win over Mayo at Ballina, despite finishing with 13 men. Nigel Elliot (2), Ciarán Clarke, Ryan McCambridge and James McNaughton goaled for the Saffrons in a comfortable win that leaves Mayo and London fighting it out to avoid the drop.

Derry remain on top of Division 2B after they came away from a trip to Páirc na hÉireann in Birmingham with two points, 2-18 to 3-11 the final score in their win over Warwickshire on Saturday. Niall Kennedy shot all three goals for Warwickshire, who after 45 minutes they were just two points adrift and well in contention to record a shock win. Then Derry stepped on the gas and points from Gerald Bradley, Richie Mullan and Paul Cleary opened up a bit of room. Tiernan McCloskey’s goal wrapped up the win, giving them the cushion they needed to withstand a late Warwickshire charge.

Donal O’Hare, Daithi Sands and Tim Prenter got early goals for Down as they quickly put their game with Donegal at Páirc Esler to bed, 3-21 to 1-15 the final score in Newry, while there was a surprise win for Wicklow against Kildare at Aughrim, 2-17 to 1-17.

Kildare’s John Gorman was red carded in the first minute and the Lilies never really got to grips with the game, trailing for most of the contest. Andy O’Brien and Enda Donohoe got the goals in either half before a late green flag from Kildare’s James Dolan set up a tense finish.

Next week Kildare need to beat Down and hope for Derry to do them a favour against Wicklow, while the other three counties have their fate in their own hands in the race for a league final place.

Roscommon continue to set the pace in Division 3A after they beat Tyrone by 1-26 to 1-11 at Dr. Hyde Park, Cathal Dolan adding a late goal to their tally. They led by 0-15 to 0-7 at half time after hurling with the aid of a strong breeze, but aside from Damien Casey’s freetaking, the Ulster county struggled to get any attacking foothold.

Tyrone will host Armagh next week to decide who meets the Rossies in the decider and Armagh will take plenty of momentum into that game after a comfortable 2-17 to 2-6 win over Louth at Darver. Dylan McKenna and Stephen Reneghan were the goalscorers for Armagh against a Louth side that had three men sent off.

Monaghan eased their relegation concerns with a win over Lancashire. Luke McKenna, Mark Treanor and Paddy Finnegan were the goalscorers in their 3-17 to 0-16 win at Inniskeen.

Meanwhile Sligo and Longford will contest the Division 3B final, after Longford beat Cavan by 3-10 to 0-13 at Kingspan Breffni Park. Fermanagh beat Leitrim by 2-15 to 1-12 in the other game in the division, with Sligo on a bye week.
