Belfield provides the backdrop for an eagerly anticipated Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup Quarter-Final on Sunday.

UCD and St Mary's both enjoyed splendid first round triumphs last weekend so the upcoming encounter promises to be interesting.

A shoulder injury ruled out Con O'Callaghan for UCD against Ulster University, but Gary Walsh and the excellent Ray Connellan occupied central roles for the victors.

St Mary's cruised to a surprisingly emphatic win over Maynooth University with Oisin O'Neill hugely effective nailing five points including three from play.

In the North West IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT will both be hopeful of reaching the penultimate stage.

Managed by Michael Murphy Letterkenny proved too strong for Athlone IT, while IT Sligo showed admirable battling qualities when edging out UL.

A star studded UCC survived a most demanding test against NUIG in Dangan, but will now face a pumped up IT Carlow outfit.

With Billy Morgan involved UCC, who include Sean O'Shea amongst several inter-county performers, will be aware of the threat IT Carlow carry.

Last weekend IT Tralee suffered a disappointing loss on home turf as IT Carlow, prompted by Cian Farrell, finished with a flourish.

DCU's meeting with Queens should be another lively affair.

Garda came close to causing a shock against DCU, who eventually survived, while Queens were content to secure a victory over TU Dublin City Campus.
