Tyrone's Shea O'Hare is the EirGrid U20 Footballer of the Year.

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid has announced Tyrone’s Shea O’Hare as the EirGrid U20 Player of the Year following the conclusion of the EirGrid GAA Football U20 All Ireland Championship.

O'Hare was a tower of strength for Tyrone at wing back on their journey to winning the U20 All-Ireland Football Championship for the second time in three years. There are high hopes that the Ardboe man will make it at senior level and could go straight into the Tyrone senior squad. O'Hare's rampaging runs and searing pace made him a huge attacking threat on a Tyrone side that hit 1-20 against Kerry and 3-18 against Roscommon in the All-Ireland series. He fired 1-1 against Roscommon, while also hitting a goal against Derry in Tyrone's Ulster final victory, which came after extra-time and a penalty shoot-out.

O'Hare was also hugely impressive in another high stakes knockout game for Tyrone when he hit a point as they edged Monaghan by a point in the Ulster semi-final, on a 2-9 to 0-14 scoreline.

His consistent excellence throughout an eight-game campaign saw the young defender crowned EirGrid U20 Player of the Year.

The EirGrid Player of the Year is carefully selected by the Gaelic Writers Association has been running for a decade. EirGrid is responsible for a safe, secure, and reliable supply of electricity, and is leading the transition to a low carbon electricity future to create a greener and more sustainable future for the next generation.

The 2024 season marked a decade of EirGrid’s sponsorship of the competition. This sponsorship along with EirGrid’s official timing partnership with the GAA is part of the company’s wider commitment to support local communities across Ireland.

Chief Infrastructure Officer at EirGrid, Michael Mahon, said “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Shea for being named the EirGrid U20 Player of the Year.
