Electric Ireland Ulster MFC Quarter-Finals

Cavan 2-23 Armagh 1-6

Donegal 2-16 Monaghan 2-15

Cavan and Donegal got the better of Armagh and Monaghan respectively in the Electric Ireland Ulster MFC quarter-finals, with holders Tyrone and Derry awaiting in the last four.

Donegal staged a sensational comeback as they fought back from 12 points down to defeat Monaghan by 2-16 to 2-15 in a thriller at Convoy, with Finn Gillespie emerging as the hero with a last gasp winning point.

Luke Kelly shot the visitors into an early lead, but scores from Thomas McHugh and Danny Og Cooney edged Donegal ahead.

The lead didn’t last long, as the visitors powered forward again, Mickey Doogan Burke on target, before Alex McGinnity drilled home a 13th minute goal for a five points advantage.

They continued to press strongly, with Doogan Burke landing a two-pointer and Cormac Kelly also on target.

Doogan Burke broke through for a second Farney goal just before the break, giving his side a 2-9 to 0-5 advantage at the turnaround.

The home side set about chipping away at a huge deficit with scores from Callum Dorrian and MJ Ward.

Mark Anthony McGuinness turned the game on its head with two goals, before Darragh O’Hare landed a two-pointer and an equalising free.

It was Gillespie who completed the escape act with a brilliant winner in the dying moments.

At Crossmaglen, Cavan proved too strong for the Orchard lads as they coasted to a 2-23 to 1-6 victory.

Cavan seized control early on, buoyed by a Daire McCrystal goal after just six minutes.

They had 1-8 on the board before Armagh managed their first score, with Zach Byrne and Jay Graham both sending over two-pointers.

Oliver Clarke and another handful of scores from Graham piled the agony on the home side, before they got off the mark in the 17th minute through Conor Barry.

Graham, Jack Forde and Jake Brady extended the Breffni lead before Barry responded with his second, Cavan ahead by 1-11 to 0-2 at the interval.

Graham’s accuracy helped to pile on the scores, with McCrystal and Jake Brady adding points, before Armagh pulled back a 50th minute goal through Oran Leneghan, followed by a Cahir Vallely point.

But star man Graham put the outcome beyond doubt with his side’s second goal four minutes from the end.
