Proinnsias Breathnach

In this interview Proinnsias Breathnach reflects on growing up in Waterford of the 1950s. He discusses the place of his local club Abbeyside during the golden age of hurling in the county. Proinnsias talks about his father’s interest in Gaelic games and his own interest in hurling and soccer. He played in Maynooth University for a time and contrasts the organisation of games in Kildare with his home county. He gives a critic of GAA administration at local and national level and of the coverage of Gaelic games in local newspapers and radio. He became himself a contributor to media through letters to the local Waterford press and through a blog to the An Fear Rua website. He expresses his fascination with statistics and assesses the growing role that match analysis plays in Gaelic games.
