Oral History

Paddy Egan

Paddy Egan talks about countless aspects of the GAA experience in his native County Longford. He was not the most talented of players, but was an ardent supporter of the GAA and got involved in administration as well as being a correspondent for the local paper. He was also a keen participant in Scór events, and a friend and neighbour of Liam Mulvihill, who rose to the very top levels of the GAA. Paddy's family were GAA people who told him many stories of their own experiences - stretching back to the 19th century - which he has never forgotten. He talks in great detail about the history of the GAA in his area, his involvement with the local club Kenagh, political strife down through the decades, memorable games and characters, and his admiration for some great people who epitomised the spirit of the GAA, giving their all each and every time despite the fact that the odds were regularly stacked against them.
