Naul McCole

Naul McCole talks about his involvement in the GAA over the years. He recalls his earliest memories of Gaelic games and talks about growing up in Donegal during the 1940s. He talks about playing football in school and making the Donegal minor team. He discusses attending St Enda’s in Galway before going to St Patrick’s College in Dublin to become a teacher. He recalls his first visit to Croke Park and what Dublin was like at the time. He discusses his family’s interest in the GAA and how his father lived on Rutland Island. He talks about the rivalry between Dungloe and Gaoth Dobhair (Gweedore) and recalls the ‘four matches’ between the clubs and the incidents after the matches. He discusses how people from the area emigrated mainly to Scotland and talks about the link between Glasgow and Dungloe. Naul talks about his first involvement in administration and becoming selector for Donegal in 1989. He discusses his involvement with the Donegal team that won the All-Ireland in 1992 and working with Brian McEniff. He describes the different administrative roles he has held, from club level to provincial level working with the Ulster Council. Naul talks about the role of the GAA in his life and highlights the important role it plays in the community.
