John Fenton

John Fenton talks about a hurling career that culminated in him reaching the pinnacle of his sport. Growing up in Midleton he played hurling in school, in road leagues and with his local club, often travelling around the county to play games. A talented hurler, he went on to represent his county at minor and Under-21 level, before breaking into the Cork senior team at 19. He captained Cork to the All-Ireland hurling title in 1984 and won a county championship with his club - their first in decades. John talks in detail about being part of a successful team that was determined to achieve success. He describes the sensation of winning the titles they so craved and how it pained him to walk away from the game when he felt that his time was up. He also recalls appearing in a television advertisement and, of course, that famous goal against Limerick in Thurles in 1987.
