There were impressive wins for Cavan and Derry on Saturday night in the Power NI Dr. McKenna Cup.

The Breffni men recorded their first win of the competition with a strong display in the Athletic Grounds, defeating Paul Grimley's Armagh side with four points to spare, 3-9 to 1-11.

Cavan led 1-2 to 0-0 after just seven minutes, Tomás Corr firing in the goal. Armagh recovered with a few points, but a second Cavan goal, from Martin Dunne, left Cavan five ahead.

Gavin McParland's goal gave Armagh hope, and they trailed 2-5 to 1-5 at half-time, but Cavan struck a third goal shortly after the restart, through the impressive Dunne, and Armagh weren't able to catch them as they eased to the victory after that.

In Section C, Brian McIver oversaw the first win of his reign as Derry manager as the Oak Leaf County defeated the students of UUJ on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-6 at Celtic Park.

The first half was relatively close, but Ciaran McFaul's goal on the stroke of half-time gave Derry a commanding 1-6 to 0-3 interval lead.

Derry continued to extend their lead throughout the second half, and were well deserving of their 10-point win in the end.
