History was made in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on August 8/9 with the staging of the first ever Midwest Championships.

Games were played over two days with the Junior Championship Final between Cleveland and Pittsburgh being the showpiece event on Sunday afternoon. Ladies Football and hurling also featured prominently as the Midwest made a statement of intent.

"We're the little guys out here and we're trying hard all the time to get approval", says Midwest Chairperson John Young. "We've shown that we are capable of putting this sort of thing together."

"It was a fantastic weekend", said North American County Board Chairman Gareth Fitzsimons who attended the event.

Scott Lentz from the Pittsburgh Pucas hurling team, Maureen Kennedy Macel from the Pittsburgh Banshees, and Dennis O'Donoghue who presented the inaugural Tom O'Donoghue cup, all feature on this report.

Video Production: by Jerome Quinn for Midwest GAA, with support from the Carrickdale Hotel and the Canal Courth Hotel, as well as sponsors in the USA.
