Mortimer leaves Mayo panel

Mayo forward Conor Mortimer has quit the county panel ahead of the Connacht GAA Football Championship final against Sligo.

The county's all-time record top scorer was in and out of the team during the Allianz Football League, and was left out of the side that started for Mayo in the Connacht semi-final win against Leitrim.

James Horan hasn't named him in his team for the Connacht final against Sligo this Sunday either, and the former GAA All Star has decided to leave the panel.

In a statement released tonight, the Mayo County Board confirmed his departure, stating that the door would remain open for a potential return in the future.

"The Mayo GAA County Board can confirm that due to personal reasons, Conor Mortimer has decided to leave the current Mayo Senior Football Panel," the statement read. "The Management, Players and Mayo County Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Conor Mortimer for his services this year to Mayo GAA and indeed for his services throughout the years.

"Conor has been a great servant to Mayo football and his contributions will live long in the hearts in Mayo people. We would also like to state the the door is always open for any player who is showing the skills, commitment, ability, and passion for Mayo GAA now and in the future."
