Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship Quarter-Finals

Roscommon, Mayo and Monaghan joined Tyrone, who beat Kerry in the first quarter-final in Croke Park on Sunday , in the last four of the Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Championship after wins on Bank Holiday Monday.

Roscommon 3-8 Kildare 0-12

Roscommon moved into the last four of the All-Ireland series with a powerful showing against Kildare in an entertaining quarter-final tie played at O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

Kildare, who impressed in their Leinster final defeat of Westmeath at Croke Park, were favourites to overcome a Roscommon side that had lost to Mayo in their provincial decider. However, the Rossies hit three first half goals and coped with the sending off of Tadhg O'Rourke to cause a minor upset.

Fergal O'Donnell's charges made the perfect start, netting early goals through Ultan Harney and Diarmuid Murtagh to take a 2-2 to 0-0 lead. Roscommon then got a third goal through Diarmuid McCann before the Lilywhites hit three points without reply before the break to cut the gap to five having had O'Rourke dismissed for a second yellow card offence.

The Rossies dealt admirably with his loss, adding points from Harney and McCann to go seven clear. Kildare, with some excellent scores from Neil Fitzpatrick and Neil Flynn, had the gap down to four points at one stage before Ronan Daly hit a crucial relieving score for the Rossies.

Mayo 2-13 Westmeath 0-8

Mayo hit 10 points without reply at the start of the second half to overcome Westmeath in Tullamore and seal their place in the All-Ireland semi-finals.

The Westerners moved five points clear after 12 minutes with Conor Loftus sending over their opener inside the first minute. Tommy Carr's side fought back well and hit the final two points of the first half an hour to go in 0-9 to 0-6 down at the break.

At the start of the second half, Mayo ended the game as a contest with a devastating burst which yielded 2-4 without reply. Tommy Conroy started that purple patch before Cian Hanley was taken down for a penalty and fired home the resultant placed ball himself. Hanley then set up a second goal for his side, with Darragh Doherty providing the finish on this occasion.

Luke Loughlin finally ended that dreadful sequence for the Lake County with a couple of important scores, but any hopes they had of producing a comeback were ended when Alan Hughes was sent off following an off-the-ball incident.

Monaghan 0-12 Tipperary 0-9

Ulster champions Monaghan sealed their place in the semi-finals with three-point defeat of Tipperary at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in Longford on Monday.

Tipperary played with the wind at their backs in the first half and notched the opening score of the game through Alan Tynan and then moved 0-4 to 0-1 ahead after 10 minutes. However, the Farney County, who are aiming to reach the All-Ireland minor final for the first time in 74 years, took over from there and had the gap down to 0-5 to 0-4 at the break.

Inside five minutes of the second half, Monaghan hit three points without reply to move two points clear. Tipp then drew level, but the Farney men finished superbly, hitting five of the next six points, including a terrific effort from sub Adam Treanor in injury-time, to seal a deserved win and a place in the semi-finals against Mayo.
