Mayo are missing a number of key regulars for their Connacht GAA Football quarter-final against London in Ruislip this weekend but are still hot favourites to progress to the next stage.

Midfielder Ronan McGarrity and dual star Keith Higgins are expected to be sidelined with Achilles tendon and knee injuries respectively.

London have acquired the services of former Galway footballer Mark Gottsche and 2008 Kerry All-Ireland U21 winner Mike Moloney for this year. However, the Exiles boss Paul Coggins has lost a number of regulars from recent seasons, including Galway native Éamon Ó Cuív.

Four London players will be in a strange position come Sunday evening when they face their native county. Noel Tuohy, Sean Kelly, John Scanlon and Tony Gaughan are all studying or working in the English capital.

Ballagherderren native Tuohy works as a teacher, Crossmolina's Scanlon as a draughtsman, Gaughan is a plumber, while fellow Kiltane man Kelly is studying for a Masters in Osteopathy.

Wing back Tuohy, who won a Mayo Senior Football Championship medal three years ago, said that they will draw motivation from last year's All-Ireland Championship Qualifiers.

"Longford knocked Mayo out of the championship last year and they're a fellow Division 4 team. We will be looking to do the same," said Tuohy.

"The aim will be to get a good start against Mayo, put them on the back foot and get them thinking. It's not about containment; we'll be going out there in a positive frame of mind."

Mayo only managed two victories in the Allianz Football League Division 1, but they surprised most by beating the eventual Division 1 winners and current All-Ireland Football champions Cork.

But last year's championship was one for Mayo to forget. They crashed out at the Connacht GAA Football Quarter-final stage and then lasted just one game in the Qualifiers, losing to Longford in round one. However, Mayo are expected to comfortably beat London on Sunday and face Galway in Castlebar on June 26.
