London GAA finals to be broadcast live
The 2014 London GAA football and hurling finals will be broadcast live on television for the first time ever this coming weekend.
Irish TV, a new local and international channel targeting the global Irish diaspora, will broadcast both games on Sky 191, Freeview 400, all free-to-air boxes, and online at irishtv.ie
On Saturday, August 30 the Irish TV cameras will be at The Emerald GAA Grounds in Ruislip for the Ardent Tide Senior Hurling Championship final between Kilburn Gaels and Sean Treacy's. The following day's coverage from Ruislip will feature the Danny Sullivan and Sons Senior Football Championship decider between arch rivals Tír Chonaill Gaels and Fulham Irish.
Coverage on both days will commence at 5pm and will include in-depth analysis and discussion with expert commentary from a host of GAA stars. The live show will also look at the dedication of local GAA clubs in the city and also explores recent immigration trends in the UK.
Speaking ahead of the broadcast, London GAA Chairperson Noel O'Sullivan said he was delighted that Irish TV would be bringing the games to a global audience. "We have worked with Irish TV over the past two years and we are thrilled that they have decided to broadcast the two GAA finals live," said O'Sullivan.
"This is a phenomenal opportunity to showcase the outstanding work of all the GAA clubs in London and especially to showcase our ambitious plans for the development of Ruislip and the GAA in the city."
Irish TV head of broadcast Malachi Cush said the live show was an important first for the channel. "We have an excellent relationship with the GAA, both at home and abroad, and we felt it would be fitting to highlight the outstanding contribution that overseas clubs make in connecting the entire GAA family," said Cush.
Irish TV has also recently launched a brand new GAA show called Mad For Sam which looks at the build up to the penultimate stages of the All Ireland Football Championship. The channel also covers GAA club events from across the country on their weekly County Matters series.
Irish TV has two UK offices in London and Manchester which both deliver a weekly show that connects the Irish community in the UK with home. Out and About in Manchester airs Tuesday evening at 8.30pm and Out and About in the UK airs Wednesday at 8.30pm.
