Joe Canning voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week
Although there was just one hurling championship game at the weekend - the meeting of Kilkenny and Galway - it turned out to be a real classic.
There were some outstanding individual displays in the game, and so it was always going to be interesting to see who would come out on top in our GAA.ie Hurling Player of the Week vote.

Galway's astonishing comeback against the Cats was primarily the work of their two outstanding forwards, Conor Cooney and Joe Canning. Cooney's two late goals were decisive, but it's Canning who is the comfortable winner of our vote after his haul of 2-3 against Kilkenny.
GAA.ie HURLING PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Joe Canning (Galway) - 1091 votes (59.2%)2. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny) - 504 votes (27.4%)3. Conor Cooney (Galway) - 247 votes (13.4%)
Canning's ability to deliver when it realty counts had been questioned in the build-up to the game, but he delivered an emphatic answer in Tullamore, hitting 2-3, including that memorable equaliser deep into injury time.
He was instrumental to Galway's revival, showing incredible resolve to drag his side back into the game when they looked dead and buried. As well as showing superb technique and nerve from the two penalties, his run and pass for Conor Cooney's goal were outstanding. He took just under 60 per cent of the vote on our official Facebook and Twitter pages.
In second place was Kilkenny's Richie Hogan on 27 per cent. Arguably the player of the year to date, Hogan has taken to his new midfield role with real gusto. He scored five points, including four from play, and was named by RTÉ as their Man of the Match. The Danesfort clubman is a pocket dynamo, irrepressibly brilliant in a side that badly needs his enthusiasm and energy.
Cooney came a somewhat distant third on 13 per cent, a bit of a surprise given the level of performance he gave against Kilkenny. He hit 2-7, including those two crucial late goals from play and six superbly-struck placed balls. His ability to find the back of the net when under intense pressure from the Kilkenny defence was what ultimately saved the day for the Tribesmen.
