Injury forces Meehan to leave Galway panel
Michael Meehan has been forced to withdraw from the Galway football panel for the 'foreseeable future' due to a chronic ankle injury.
A Statement from the Galway County Board read: "After a protracted battle with injury, Michael Meehan has decided to opt out of the Galway senior football panel for the foreseeable future.
"His return to training this year has been hampered by a chronic ankle injury which was first sustained some seasons ago. It was hoped that Michael would return for the National League but this season the injury has not responded well to treatment and he has yet to resume training. A return to inter county action by championship is now seen as unrealistic.
"Michael's decision to leave the panel was made in conjunction with the medical team and management. Michael has not ruled out a return after a substantial period of rest."
Galway manager Alan Mulholland added: "Michael has been a marquee player for Galway for the last decade and his absence for the season ahead will leave a big void.
"While disappointed, we can understand Michael's frustration and fully support his decision to give his injury a complete rest."
