Féile na nGael an outstanding success
This year saw a new Féile format of national, regional and provincial competitions. The new format resulted in an increase in participation from 3,000 children in 2013 to 8,000 children in 2014.
4,500 children participated in the national finals in Ulster. The new format ensures that Féile is a true festival of Gaelic games for boys and girls.
The new format also resulted in more competitive games with close finishes in many games. The introduction of shield competitions at the National Féile was a huge success keeping all teams involved to a quarter final stage.
The Kevin Lynch Hurling Club from Derry were the first time winners of the Christy Ring Trophy defeating Dunloy of Antrim. Loughiel Shamrocks are the new Division 1 camogie champions. All the results from the weekend are available at gaa.ie/feile or @feilegaa
The winners of the Séamus O Riain Cup for county winners from Tier One counties were Kilmacud Crokes who defeated Midleton by one point in a thrilling final played in Semple Stadium. Whitehall Colmcilles were regional winners in Waterford, Na Fianna won in Kilkenny, Turloughmore won in Galway, James Stephens won in Portlaoise.
The feedback from coaches, parents and children was that of an outstanding success. Thanks to all the host clubs and volunteers who organised the competitions.
