Donegal's Ciaran Thompson voted GAA.ie Footballer of the Week

25 May 2018 - 1:56PM
GAA.ie Footballer of the Week Ciaran Thompson.

GAA.ie Footballer of the Week Ciaran Thompson.

Donegal's Ciaran Thompson has been voted GAA.ie Footballer of the Week.

Thompson, who has impressed for Donegal in the Allianz Football League, earned 2,368 votes with Paul Geaney in second and Philly McMahon in third place.

The GAA.ie Footballer of the Week is decided by votes cast on the GAA's Official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages.

GAA.ie Footballer of the Week

1: Ciaran Thompson (Donegal) 2368 (38%)

2: Paul Geaney (Kerry) 2229 (35%)

3: Philly McMahon (Dublin) 1692 (27%)

Since the opening weekend loss to Kerry, Donegal have responded impressively. Wins over Roscommon and Cavan and a draw with Dublin ensure Donegal have collected five points.

One of those to make a favourable impression during these matches has been Ciaran Thompson, who drilled over some excellent long range scores against Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday evening.

Paul Geaney is an instrumental figure for Kerry and his value to the cause was underlined at Dr Hyde Park.

Kerry needed to secure a victory in the west and Geaney started and finished the match strongly.

Impressive early on kicking some clever points, Geaney also struck the decisive goal late on, ending with a 1-6 haul.

**Philly McMahon **was oustanding throughout for a dominant Dublin against Mayo at Croke Park on Saturday evening.

The Ballymun Kickhams player is an accomplished footballer and ventured forward to kick two classy points.

Solid defensively McMahon repeatedly made intelligent bursts during another dynamic Dublin display at GAA headquarters.
