Connacht Championship launched in Bekan

The 2015 Connacht Senior Football Championship was officially launched at the Connacht GAA Centre in Bekan, Co. Mayo on Thursday afternoon.

Representatives from Galway, Leitrim, London, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo attended the event, alongside delegates of the Connacht Council.

The Connacht Senior Football Championship actually began last Sunday in the Bronx, when Galway defeated New York in the traditional transatlantic opener.

Kevin Walsh's Tribesmen are in action again on Sunday, May 17 when they take on Leitrim in the quarter-final while the following Sunday (May 24) sees 2013 finalists London face Roscommon in Ruislip.

Mayo, who are bidding for a fifth Connacht title in a row this year, face Galway or Leitrim in the semi-final on June 14, with the second semi-final, between Sligo and the winners of Roscommon v London, taking place on June 20.

The final is scheduled for Sunday, July 19.

Mayo have achieved the five-in-a-row once before, over 100 years ago when they won five in succession from 1906 to 1910. The only other county to achieve it was Galway, who won five Connacht titles in a row from 1956 to 1960.
