Brian Hanley has stepped down from his role as Westmeath senior and U21 hurling manager, it was confirmed today.
Hanley was appointed in April 2011 and resigns in the wake of last week's Leinster U21 semi-final defeat to Dublin.
In a statement, released today, the Galway native said : "I wish to confirm as of Wednesday evening last that I am standing down as Westmeath senior and U21 hurling manager after three-and-a-quarter years in charge.
"I would like to thank everyone who has worked with me and formed part of my management team during this period and most of all the players. Also, I would like to thank the county and hurling board for their full support of me and wish them and Westmeath continued success on the field.
"I really hope that they can build on the strong foundations that are now laid in place and I fully expect Westmeath to gain promotion in the league next year followed by round-robin success (in Leinster). Iarmhi Abú."
The Westmeath County Board thanked Hanley for his efforts.
"Westmeath GAA would like to thank Brian for his time, commitment and dedication to the promotion of hurling since 2011," a statement read.
"He has strived to improve the standing of the game within the county and raise the profile of Westmeath's standing at national level during his time here. Brian is wished the very best in all his future endeavours."
