WATCH: Professor Niall Moyna encourages players to 'Be Ready to Play'

Professor Niall Moyna has encouraged club players of all ages to sign up for the ‘Be Ready to Play’ Coaching and Sports Science Programme in association with UPMC.

Moyna is a Professor in DCU’s School of Health and Human Performance, a member of the Gaelic Games Sports Science Working Group, and a highly successful gaelic football coach and county, club, and third level.

“We all know from the last year that we certainly live in unprecedented times and all of our lives have been affected,” Moyna told GAA.ie

“None more so than those of us who were involved in the GAA.

“The 'Be Ready to Play' initiative that's been set up by the Gaelic Games Associations in collaboration with UPMC will provide a program for men, women, youth, adults to get them ready to come back to play when the season starts up again.

“There are many out there who probably hibernated over the winter and this program is also for you. Because initially the program is going to be designed to get people to stay active but those who have not been active to get you back up again ready now for the upcoming season.

“And then once we get the go ahead from the government, the next plan in then is to develop a program to get you ready to play. Now we have some of the best sports scientists in Ireland involved with this and obviously modern technology has become ubiquitous in our lives and that is going to form the basis of this program.

“There will be webinars, there will be instructional videos, there will be monthly sessions particularly in relation to athletic development.

“We have wonderful coaching webinars and other facets such as wellness, psychology, nutrition, skill acquisition, and other areas would be covered as part of this initiative.

“It is extremely important it is aimed at the club player at all levels so I'm really, really encouraging you to come to the web sign up and get involved.”
