Carlow 0-15 New York 0-10

Carlow ultimately saw off the challenge of New York in this preliminary Tailteann Cup quarter-final tie at Netwatch Cullen ParK.
In the end Carlow prevailed, but at half-time, the home supporters were worried as New York led 0-8 to 0-6.
All but one of the visiting starting forwards scored from play in the first half. Shane Carthy landed two frees as well as his 26th minute score from play. For Carlow, Darragh Foley was once again the leading scorer with three frees and one point from play.
The second half was a completely different affair. The home side dominated. Foley converted a free and Ciaran Moran also found the posts. Carthy’s response from a free nudged New York in front again.
Carlow dug in and hit seven unanswered points. Two of them, one each from Conor Doyle and Jordan Morrissey into the scoreboard end of the ground were scores to grace any arena. It helped knock the stuffing out of the visitors.
Colm Hulton should have found the New York net but his shot sailed over the crossbar. At the other end, Johnny Furey the Carlow goalkeeper, denied Luke Kelly with his legs. While the visitors had one late goal chance with Furey again getting down at his near post, it was their last chance to build some momentum and get back at their rivals.
With a six-point lead, Carlow played down the clock against a tired New York side, who battled but just ran out of legs.
