Sky Sports will broadcast 20 live GAA fixtures this summer.
Sky Sports’ GAA coverage gets off to its best ever start this summer, with current All-Ireland SFC champions Dublin beginning their title defence against Laois from Nowlan Park on Saturday 4th June.
It will be 10 years to the day since Dublin last played a championship game outside of Croke Park and GAA fans will be keen to see how The Dubs can perform outside the familiar surroundings of Dublin 3.
The second week of mouthwatering Sky Sports coverage in June sees the most successful hurling county ever Kilkenny take on either Dublin or Wexford on Saturday 11 June as the Cats attempt to win back-to-back All-Ireland SHC titles. Kilkenny are looking to add to their record 36 All-Ireland SHC titles as they continue their dominance of the championship this century and they won’t give the Liam McCarthy Cup up easily.
A bumper month of exclusive Sky Sports GAA fixtures, which will give a strong indication of where the Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy Cups will end up, closes with games from Connacht and Ulster Senior Football Championships.
If Mayo overcome London, Galway will be looking for revenge from last season over their fierce rivals in the semi-final exclusively live on Sky Sports on June 18 in their first ever championship meeting on a Saturday (excluding replays).
Finally in June, the USFC semi-final will feature Monaghan or Down against Fermanagh or Donegal on Saturday June 25.
Live coverage continues each weekend of the season culminating in the hurling and football championship finals in September.
Sky Sports brings experience that gets the viewer closer for GAA 2016 with a team of expert analysts boasting 15 All-Ireland medals and 16 All-Star Awards between them, including former Donegal manager Jim McGuinness, Tyrone legend Peter Canavan, Kilkenny’s nine time All-Ireland SHC champion JJ Delaney and Clare’s All-Ireland two-time SHC star Jamesie O’Connor.
JD Buckley, Sky Ireland’s Managing Director said “Our partnership with the GAA is going from strength to strength as we enter the third year of Sky Sports coverage of GAA. This season, we’ll be making our coverage even better with our experienced analysts offering insights that gets the viewer closer to what is happening on the pitch”
Sky Sports launched their 2016 GAA coverage on Friday.
Jim McGuinness said: “I’ve had the great honour of being involved in inter-county football both as a player and a manager over a long number of years and I am looking forward to continue sharing some of my experiences and insights with Sky Sports viewers. I really enjoyed my first season with Sky Sports and I am delighted to be joining up with the team again for the 2016 Championship.”
JJ Delaney said: “The Championship has been a huge part of my life for the last 15 years. After retiring from the Kilkenny team, Sky Sports has given me the opportunity to offer a fresh perspective on the players and I’m excited to continue analysing the games in what promises to be a very competitive Championship.”
The 2016 Sky Sports marketing campaign "Experience that gets you closer" commences Monday May 23, across TV, outdoor, press, digital and social.
The campaign uses the Sky Sports own GAA experts – Peter Canavan, Jim McGuinness, Jamesie O'Connor and JJ Delaney – who draw on their extensive experience playing at an All–Ireland Championship level to bring insightful analysis to the Sky Sports viewer.
The advert was developed by the creative agency Brothers and Sisters, with production from Dublin company Hinterland Films and directed by FEEL GOOD LOST.
The campaign will be supported by a 6 months half price Sky Sports offer for new and existing customers.
