Allianz Football League Division Three
Sligo 1-19 Fermanagh 0-15
Westmeath 2-19 Clare 1-17
Wexford 0-23 Laois 0-9
Down 0-18 Limerick 1-14
Westmeath moved to joint top of the Division 3 table alongside Wexford and Down with full points after two games, following a five point win over Clare at Zimmer Biomet Cusack Park
A Brian Cooney goal for the Lake men on the hour mark was the crucial score, as it sent Mark McHugh’s side seven points clear.
Ronan Wallace soon made it eight with his second point of the game.
Clare fought back with an Aaron Griffin two pointer, a Jamie Stack point and a Mark McInerney free cutting the gap to four, but that was as close as they got as Robbie Forde fisted the insurance point.
Sligo got off the mark with a seven point victory over Fermanagh at Markievicz Park that leaves the Erne men bottom of the table alongside Clare on zero points.
The home side hit six of the last seven points to power home, while they also finished the first half strongly with an unanswered 1-2, all from Niall Murphy, who was fouled and then converted the resultant penalty.
Wexford and Down recorded wins on Saturday to go joint top of Division Two with full points after two games.
John Hegarty’s Wexford backed up a fine Round One win on the road against Fermanagh by overwhelming Laois at Chadwicks Wexford Park to run out comfortable 14 point winners.
Laois’ meagre tally of 0-9 will have Justin McNulty concerned while the bulk of Wexford’s scores came from Sean Nolan and Darragh Brooks, who both hit 0-7, with all of Brooks’ scores coming from placed balls and Nolan scoring two points from play.
Two point frees killed Laois with Wexford shooting four in total as they look towards a Round Three encounter away to Limerick.
Laois, who have just one point from two games after last weekend’s draw with Limerick, face Sligo at home in their next game.
Meanwhile, Shane Annett’s late point from a free handed Conor Laverty’s side a one point win on the road in Limerick.
Daniel Guinness showed great leadership for the second week in a row to hit a two pointer on 68 minutes after Limerick had hit a goal to come back into the game with Danny Neville hitting the net on 61 minutes to leave the home side just one behind.
