‘Relentless’ by Mary White the GAA Museum Book Club Choice for May
The May reading choice for the GAA Museum Book Club is the fantastic Relentless by Mary White. Relentless tells the inside story of the Cork Ladies Footballers, a team considered one of the best in Irish sporting history.
The Cork Ladies Football team dominated the game between 2005 and 2016 and this book tells the story of their rise to greatness. It charts how the team went from having never won a senior title in the sport, to winning 11 All-Ireland titles in 12 years.
The author sports journalist Mary White covered ladies football and women’s sport for local and national newspapers for 17 years. She has also represented Cork in basketball, soccer and ladies football. Her second book Game Changer with Cora Staunton won the An Post Irish Sports Book of the Year in 2018.
A free live GAA Museum Book Club chat with Mary White will take place on Microsoft Teams at 8.30pm on Thursday June 3rd. You can sign up to be part of the Book Club at www.crokepark.ie/bookclub. Here you can also listen back to previous Book Club author chats including those with Michael Foley (Bloodied Field), Paul Rouse (The Hurlers) and Christy O’Connor (Last Man Standing).
If you don’t have, or can’t borrow a copy of Relentless, the GAA Museum Gift Shop is selling copies with a 20% discount throughout May. www.crokepark.ie/shop.
