All Ireland SFC Round 2 Qualifiers

Waterford v Monaghan, Fraher Field, 2pm

Losing an Ulster Quarter-Final to a late Fermanagh goal was a blow for Monaghan, who make the long trek to Dungarvan.

In Round One Waterford showed admirable courage and composure to beat Wexford by 3-14 to 1-18.

That sparked jubilant scenes for Waterford, who are managed by the well regarded Tom McGlinchey. Earning a Championship win was Waterford's mission and they accomplished that brief in some style.

Playing a seasoned Division One team in Monaghan is an altogether different proposition, but Waterford will relish the opportunity.

Tipperary v Mayo, Semple Stadium, 5pm

Two years ago Tipperary and Mayo collided in an All Ireland semi-final at Croke Park.

Mayo eventually shrugged off Tipperary's spirited resistance to win by five points. Both teams suffered disappointing losses in their respective provincial Championships.

Mayo didn't fire against Galway, while Tipperary were soundly defeated by Cork.

Stephen Rochford's charges, with Cillian O'Connor in splendid scoring form, cruised to victory against Limerick. This will be a tougher test, though, in Thurles, especially if Tipperary summon a passionate performance.

Cavan v Down, Brewster Park, 5pm

The first Championship clash between Cavan and Down in 11 years is a critical encounter.

Cavan and Down both lost out to a pacy Donegal outfit in Ulster.

Mattie McGleenan's Cavan were far too strong for Wicklow with Gearoid McKiernan instrumental.

In March Cavan defeated Down by 0-17 to 0-14 in Kingspan Breffni in Division Two of the Allianz Football League.

Carlow v Tyrone, Netwatch Cullen Park, 5pm

Carlow are growing accustomed to playing Championship matches and this will be their fourth summer game in 2018.

That confirms the progress that is being made, but Turlough O'Brien's outfit want to take another scalp.

Tyrone, though, were caught out by a late Monaghan flurry in Ulster, but Mickey Harte's team responded by digging out a result in Navan against Meath.

During the past two decades Tyrone have proven themselves adept at negotiating awkward hurdles in the Qualifiers. Is another dramatic adventure about to take place?

Sligo v Armagh, Markievicz Park, 6pm

A third Championship match involving Sligo and Armagh following a couple of tight tussles back in 2002.

Having drawn a quarter-final at Croke Park Armagh responded by winning a Pairc Tailteann replay by 1-16 to 0-17.

Armagh were frustrated by Fermanagh in Ulster, but Kieran McGeeney's team registered a 3-16 to 1-11 victory over Westmeath in Round One.

Sligo escaped from London with a win, but they were comprehensively defeated by Galway at Pearse Stadium.

Robbie Smyth is a key forward for Longford, who face Kildare on Saturday.

Leitrim v Louth, Pairc Sean MacDiarmada, 7pm

Louth eked out a win in Ruislip in a surprisingly open game packed with scores.

Injuries and a relegation from Divison Two of the Allianz Football League ensured that was a dangerous fixture for Louth, but Pete McGrath's team prevailed.

Leitrim secured their own valuable victory in New York last month, but the 0-24 to 0-10 loss against Roscommon was a setback.

Longford v Kildare, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 7pm

A healthy crowd is expected at the midlands venue as Longford seek to claim a second 2018 summer win in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

The success over Meath was followed by a gutsy display at Croke Park, but the midlanders were still outclassed by Dublin.

Kildare endured a torrid Leinster Championship loss to Carlow, but encouraging signs were available during the 2-22 to 2-14 Round One win over Derry.

All Ireland SFC Round 2 Qualifier

Offaly v Clare, Bord Na Mona O'Connor Park, 1.30pm

Paul Rouse guided Offaly to a fine Round One win and performance against Antrim.

Clare are dangerous opponents, but Offaly were buoyed up by the manner of the display when Antrim were defeated in Tullamore.

Colm Collins' work with Clare is worthy of praise and respect, but it shows how far they have travelled that the heavy loss to Kerry was viewed as a real disappointment.

Undoubtedly Clare will be looking for improvement, but Offaly have the potential to cause problems for the Banner.
