Laois GAA promote Breastfeeding Friendly initiative
As the weekend draws closer the anticipation is building in Laois as clubs and communities prepare to descend on O’Moore Park for the County Premier Intermediate and Senior Hurling Finals. The parishes of Ballyfin CLG and Baile na Coille CLG (Premier Intermediate), and Borris in Ossory/Kilcotton and Clough/Ballacolla (Senior), are adorned with flags and bunting in their club colours while families and friends discuss the possibility of becoming champions.
For many, attending matches is a family occasion, so in a bid to be as accessible as possible for all family members, Laois GAA and their County Health & Wellbeing Committee (CHWC) have joined the Laois Local Community Development Committee’s ‘We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Laois’ campaign.
Supported by Healthy Ireland, the campaign seeks to assist organisations in improving the health & wellbeing of mothers, their babies, and families by encouraging organisations to become ‘Breastfeeding Firendly’.
Laois CHWC are striving to create awareness that O’Moore Park is ‘Breastfeeding Friendly’ and to encourage mothers who are breastfeeding and their families in remaining active in the GAA community.
Laois CHWC Chairperson, Leona Conroy said: “We’re really delighted to be part of this campaign. Working with Laois Local Community Development Committee and Healthy Ireland has been so informative, our stewards have all received training in how best to support breastfeeding mothers and we’ve also renovated a space in the stadium to ensure we provide the most comfortable environment possible in O’Moore Park.
“Our clubs and communities are excited about getting back into our club grounds and watching matches and it’s important for us in Laois that our members and families are aware that our county ground is Breastfeeding Friendly”.
