At Croke Park today the GAA hosted an event entitled Activating the Sports Sector for Sustainability as part of the requirements of a European Funded project called ACCESS (Achieving Circularity in Cities through the Environmental Sustainability of Sports) https://access-cc.eu/.

The project is a collaboration with FC Porto and the Welsh and Danish Football Associations.

Today's event saw representatives from the Irish sports sector as well as government, community and climate stakeholders share and discuss challenges related to the climate crisis and its impact on sport and how to support communities to take action to improve the sustainability of the sports organisations they are involved in while at the same time reducing their environmental impact.

The GAA Green Club Programme was highlighted at the event as a a model for action around sustainability in sport at grassroots level. The GAA Green Club Toolkit can be found at www.learning.gaa.ie/greenclub
