Conference Centre - FRS Recruitment GAA World Games

By Micky Quigg

There will be something for everyone at this year’s GAA World Games. The FRS Recruitment GAA World Games are leading the way with the first ever Conference Centre at the fourth staging of this global event. The Conference Centre will provide short presentations and information sessions throughout the week of the GAA World Games, on site in the Owenbeg Admin building.

We are delighted that our official sponsor of the GAA World Games, FRS Recruitment, will feature in the Owenbeg auditorium for the Conference Centre. They will be discussing all the opportunities available with them and offering recruitment advice too.

The Croke Park Games Development staff will be covering seminars on participation, coaching, and safeguarding. Diarmaid Marsden from Ulster GAA will be showcasing the province’s successful Cross Community initiatives. The GAA Community and Health department will be speaking on the health and wellbeing of members, clubs and communities initiatives they are actively delivering.

The twinning partnership between each province and each international unit has been a massive success over the last number of years i.e. Leinster GAA are twinned with Europe, Ulster are twinned with Canada GAA. Presentations by Ulster, Leinster and Munster GAA will focus on the rise in standards within participation, competition structures, refereeing and coach education, courtesy of Jamie Queeney (Leinster), Dr Eugene Young (Ulster) and Pat O’Shea (Munster).

In the spirit of all things Derry Margaret Edwards, (Programme Manager (DNA), Derry City & Strabane District Council) will be on site covering the Plans for the Derry ~ Londonderry on the North Atlantic (DNA) Museum in Ebrington. You can learn some tips on researching your family’s history with the Archivist & Genealogist from the Tower Museum, Bernadette Walsh & Brian Mitchell as well.

One of the reasons the GAA World Games is in Derry this year is because of Dennis Orsi, of the Lisa Orsi Foundation. Since 2017, they have completed two programs, encouraging young people from County Derry to continue their education and travel playing in the Asian Gaelic games in Beijing. They have taken groups of young people to South Africa and coached groups of schoolchildren in three codes, Gaelic Football, Camogie and Hurling played South African Gales. They are continuing with the program this year, which finishes up with an adventure to Cambodia where they will be playing the Cambodian club, Cairde Khmer GAA in Phnom Penh. Dennis Orsi and Sharon Orsi of the Live Life Lisa Orsi Foundation will be at the Conference Centre throughout the week.

The conference Centre will be located opposite the tented village and can be accessed via the administration building at Owenbeg Centre of Excellence. All sessions are free and will last between 20-30minutes – everyone is welcome to attend.
