Dunloy players celebrate after the Antrim County Senior Club Hurling Championship Final match between Dunloy and O'Donovan Rossa at Corrigan Park in Belfast.

#By John Harrington

There were just two County Senior Finals played over the weekend.

In Antrim, Cúchulainns Dunloy made it three Antrim Senior Hurling Championships in a row when they defeated O’Donovan Rossa, Belfast by 3-23 to 1-14.

The reigning champions got off to a perfect start thanks to a Sean Elliott goal, but Rossa stuck to the task and had reduced the deficit to a single point by the 19th minute.

But their fight-back stalled when Conal Cunning struck for Dunloy’s second goal of the match and when Chrissy McMahon added a third to help his team into a 3-7 to 0-6 half-time lead, Dunloy already had one hand on the cup.

They put Rossa to the sword in impressive fashion by then scoring five of the first six points of the second-half to end the game as a contest.

Rossa kept battling and hit a consolation goal through Stephen Beatty on 51 minutes, but that was much too little too late.

The weekend’s other Final saw Longford Slashers win their first Longford SHC title in 20 years when they defeated Wolfe Tones by 4-11 to 1-14.

They had the perfect start when Ruben Murray goaled after seven minutes and shortly afterwards rose another green flag when Cian Kavanagh’s long-range free went all the way to the Wolfe Tones net.

Things went from bad to worse for the reigning champions when Paul Leonard struck for a third Slashers goal on 24 minutes.

Wolfe Tones rose a green flag of their own two minutes later through Ian Campbell, but Slashers struck another decisive blow in first half injury time when Ronan Sheehan slalomed through before scoring their fourth goal of the match to put them 4-6 to 1-7 ahead at the break.

Wolfe Tones kept battling but they had left themselves too much to do and in the final reckoning Longford Slashers were very worthy winners.

A number of County Club Championships are also now down to the Final two after the weekend's action.

In Limerick, Patrickswell dethroned reigning hurling champions Na Piarsaigh when they triumphed on a final scoreline of 3-21 to 1-22. Kilmallock will provide the opposition in the County Final after their 4-20 to 2-16 win over Doon.

Kenmare and Austin Stacks will contest the Kerry Club SFC Final after their respective semi-final wins over Dingle and Templenoe.

Thee Roscommon SFC Final will be a showdown between Padraig Pearses and Clann na nGael, while reigning Sligo champions Tourlestrane will defend their crown against Coolera Strandhill.
