The Western Regional Finals day in the National Táin Óg Leagues drew to a close on Saturday last as 7 teams from the region attended the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan near Ballyhaunis, to take part in the festival finals. The event was the culmination of their summers Tain Og U13 league campaign which went ahead over the months of June and July.
In the Cup competition, the title went to Westport (Mayo), after wins over Athleague/Tremane (Roscommon) and Longford Slashers (Longford). Athleague/Tremane defeated Carrick in the consolation final.
In the Shield competition, the plaudits went to Claremorris (Mayo) with wins over St Domnics (Roscommon) and Wolfe Tones (Longford). However. Wolfe Tones took the consolation final with a closely fought win over St Domnics.
The referees on the day were Thaigh Morley (Mayo), Aaron Clogher (Roscommon) and Charlie Candon (Roscommon). The event was coordinated by Adrian Hession (Mayo GPO) and Proinsias Killion (Roscommon).
