Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League

WATERFORD 0-21 TIPPERARY 1-15

A late flurry of points eventually secured victory for Waterford over Tipperary in Tuesday night’s Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League clash at Mallow.

With the wind at their backs, Waterford were the dominant team in the first half, opening up a 0-8 to 0-1 lead by the 22nd minute with Colin Dunford, Rueben Halloran, and Sean Walsh impressing for Davy Fitzgerald’s team in that phase of the game.

But then a previously wasteful Tipperary found their groove to score four of the game’s next five points and eventually close the gap to four by the break, 0-10 to 0-6.

Tipperary looked to be seizing the initiative mid-way through the second-half when a Jason Forde goal narrowed the margin to two points, but when Cathal Barrett was then sent off for a second yellow card their task was made all the more difficult.

The Premier County battle gamely though and the teams were level with just two minutes of normal time remaining.

But with the 14-men tiring it was Waterford who had the legs in the final few minutes as three points from substitutes Paudie Fitzgerald and Austin Gleeson saw them home.
