A strong showing from their bench helped Cork to an impressive victory over Clare in today’s Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship quarter-final.
Substitutes Jack Leahy (4) and William Buckley (2) hit a combined total of six points to give their team a final quarter power surge that proved decisive.
Cork started the match strongly too, surging into an early 1-7 to 0-3 lead, the goal scored by Colin Walsh, but Clare grabbed a much needed life-line when Jarlath Collins’ long range free went all the way to the net for the game’s second goal.
It was the Banner boys who dominated the second quarter, and when the half-time whistle blew they trailed by only two points, 1-10 to 1-8.
Cork found their stride again though and were four points ahead by the second-half water-break before that final flourish saw them win with a bit to spare.

Two goals by Charlie Mitchell helped fire Offaly to an impressive 12-point victory over Laois in the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Championship.
The Faithful county led by four points at half-time and the key moment of the game came nine minutes into the second-half when their goalkeeper Mark Troy made a fine save from a Laois penalty.
Had Laois scored a goal at that juncture they would have moved to within a single point and would have had the win in their sails.
Mark is as son of the great Jim Troy, one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation, and has clearly learned a thing or two from his father.
Conn Kehoe was Kildare’s main score-getter as they eventually won with something to spare against Antrim.
It was a competitive encounter for most of the match, with a gloss put on the scoreline from a Kildare point of view thanks to a late Charlie Sheridan goal.
Mark Cunningham was Westmeath’s hero as he scored a winner with the last puck of the game in their hard-fought contest with Carlow.

Antrim proved too strong for Down in today’s Leinster U-20 Hurling Championship play-off and will now play Dublin in the first round proper of the competition.
