John McGrath named GAA.ie Hurler of the Week
John McGrath has been voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week.
Tipperary's John McGrath has been voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week again.
A fortnight ago McGrath topped the poll following a brilliant display against Waterford and the Loughmore-Castleiney attacker was outstanding again on Sunday.
Michael Ryan's team defeated Clare with McGrath contributing 0-10, including five splendid points from play.
McGrath earned 2,371 votes on the GAA's Official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages with Waterford's Stephen Bennett second and Kilkenny's Richie Hogan third.
GAA.ie Hurler of the Week
1: John McGrath (Tipperary) - 2371 (42%)
2: Stephen Bennett (Waterford) - 1829 (32%)
3: Richie Hogan (Kilkenny) - 1512 (26%)
John McGrath maintained his efficient early season form with another accomplished attacking display at Semple Stadium.
McGrath's 0-10 haul was instrumental for Tipperary, who fended off Clare's challenge in Thurles.
The Loughmore-Castleiney forward struck five points from play as Tipperary flashed out a reminder of their considerable class.
Following a disappointing loss to Tipperary, Waterford hit Croke Park intent on earning a win.
Dublin were gritty and resilient, but the match was ultimately decided by Stephen Bennett's opportunism.
Bennett registered 2-2 for Derek McGrath's team, who were content to leave the Jones Road venue armed with two Allianz League Division 1A points.
Losses to Waterford and Clare ensured Kilkenny were a team on a mission at Nowlan Park on Sunday.
The gifted Richie Hogan provided the inspiration with five points from play highlighting his ability.
Kilkenny were under duress to claim a victory, but Hogan was assured throughout for Brian Cody's charges.
