Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup

Group A

University of Galway 2-21 MTU Cork 2-16

Group B

SETU Carlow 1-16 Mary I 1-16

Evan Niland's 1-11 haul was instrumental as last year's beaten finalists, University of Galway, carved out a win over MTU Cork.

The prolific Clarinbridge attacker, who has scored heavily for Galway in the Walsh Cup this month, produced another impressive performance for Jeffrey Lynskey's outfit.

An entertaining encounter unfolded with a determined MTU Cork side leading 2-8 to 1-10 at the interval.

Greg Thomas struck an early goal for University of Galway, but MTU Cork replied with majors from Brian Roache and Darren Cuddihy.

In the second half, though, University of Galway were eventually able to shrug off MTU Cork's resistance.

There was plenty of drama too as SETU Carlow and Mary I divided the spoils (1-16 to 1-16).

Level 0-8 each at half-time, the second half was similarly tight and hard fought.

Carlow edged 0-15 to 0-12 ahead with 12 minutes remaining, but Mary I replied with four scores in a row to hit the front.

A goal from Kenny Ryan edged SETU Carlow back into the lead, but then Carthach Daly netted for the visitors.

Chris Nolan, though, replied with the final score as SETU Carlow earned a draw.
