Round-up: Tuesday's Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup action

Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup Quarter-Finals

IT Carlow 1-17 UCC 0-14

UL 2-22 MTU Cork 1-19

IT Carlow, managed by DJ Carey, advanced to the penultimate round of the Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup following a 1-17 to 0-14 success over UCC.

The holders just couldn't deal with IT Carlow's passion and purpose.

Rory Higgins' opportunistic first half goal ensured IT Carlow led at the break by 1-11 to 0-8.

Mark Kehoe impressed for UCC, who had Padraig Power sent off, while IT Carlow's Jerry Kelly was also dismissed.

After the restart IT Carlow, prompted by Chris Nolan and Cian Kenny, recorded a hugely encouraging win.

UL will also be involved in the last four as Brian Ryan's team defeated MTU Cork 2-22 to 1-19.

A blistering start was critical for the home team, who pounced to net two early goals.

Mikey Kiely struck in the third minute while a subsequent major from Mark Rodgers gave UL a commanding lead.

By the time the interval rolled around UL's advantage was 2-11 to 0-9 with Niall Brennan sharp.

UL pulled further clear when the action recommenced, but MTU Cork, with Liam O'Shea effective, ploughed on defiantly.

Declan Hanlon contributed a goal for MTU Cork, but UL, with Gearoid O'Connor scoring eight points, advanced.
