Ballygunner 4-19 Kilruane MacDonaghs 0-14
This was another satisfactory Sunday afternoon for Ballygunner in Walsh Park.
The AIB All-Ireland Club champions proved far too strong for Kilruane MacDonaghs with Kevin Mahony plundering 2-2.
Talenteed teenager Patrick Fitzgerald impressed too, clipping 1-4 for Ballygunner, who settled briskly.
Fitzgerald guided over a sweet early point for Ballygunner with Dessie Hutchinson also carrying a potent threat for the standard bearers.
Hutchinson rifled three points as Ballygunner accumulated a 0-6 to 0-2 advantage against a Kilruane outfit prompted by Cian Darcy.
Kilruane enjoyed some encouraging moments, but they were rocked just before the interval when Fitzgerald netted an opportunistic goal guiding the favourites 1-11 to 0-7 ahead at the break.
Kevin Mahony added a second Ballygunner major shortly after the restart.
Once again Kilruane rallied, but Ballygunner netted two goals courtesy of substitute Harry Ruddle (46) and Kevin Mahony (53).
Ballygunner subsequently closed out the deal with the minimum of fuss.
