Limerick defender Seán Finn, a member of the Treaty County's All-Ireland U21 winning side of 2015, has been ruled out for the season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Limerick Leader newspaper reported on Tuesday that the corner-back suffered the injury while playing for UL in the Fitzgibbon Cup last week.

Finn, from the Bruff club, played at right-corner-back on the Limerick side that defeated Wexford in last year's All-Ireland U21 final and he was expected to play a role for the Limerick seniors this season, having been called into the panel ahead of the Allianz Hurling League by manager TJ Ryan.

Finn, a second year Business Studies student, is part of a talented generation of young hurlers from Limerick, having won Munster minor titles with the county in 2013 and 2014 ahead of last year's U21 All-Ireland success.

Limerick begin their Allianz Hurling League Division IB campaign this weekend with a home tie against Wexford. Meanwhile, in the Fitzgibbon Cup, UL have qualified for the quarter-finals, where they will face Cork IT.
