GAA Museum Hall of Fame - Frank Cummins

This week, GAANOW Rewind features a tribute from the GAA Museum Hall of Fame to the legendary Kilkenny hurler, Frank Cummins!

Frank Cummins' sporting career was loaded with interesting moments and medals.

In the striped Kilkenny jersey Cummins won eight All Irelands, nine Leinster titles, three National Leagues, and four All Star awards.

It is quite the collection for Cummins, who was born in Knocktopher, Kilkenny in 1947.

During a glittering career Cummins featured in 16 Leinster finals for Kilkenny, while also adding another chapter to his career in Cork, enjoying a hugely productive stint playing with the fabled Blackrock club.

During that glorious era for the Rockies Cummins was an integral part of so many delightful wins for the renowned Cork outffit.

It proved to be another splendid chapter in Cummins' career.

Frank Cummins was inducted into the GAA Museum Hall of Fame in 2017.

As a teenager Cummins featured for Kilkenny in the Oireachtas Cup, but it was in the Championship of 1969 that he cemented his status as an established inter-county player.

Cummins had been a panelist when Kilkenny collected Leinster and All Ireland glory in 1969.

In the 1970s Kilkenny were a feared team with Cummins' centrefield displays providing the inspiration in so many vital encounters.

The 1971 All Ireland Final continues to be debated, but Tipperary eventually prevailed following a high scoring tussle.

Cummins, though, was now a key figure for the Cats, who captured the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 1972, 1974, 1975, and 1979 with Cummins a significant influence.

Further All Ireland titles were gleaned by Cummins with Kilkenny in 1982 and 1983 with his greatness as a midfielder fondly recalled.
