Mikey Kiely's last gasp goal ensured UL advanced to the Fitzgibbon Cup decider following a dramatic encounter.

IT Carlow were on the verge of securing victory when Kiely pounced to grab a goal for UL.

A dramatic encounter went the distance as a remarkable point from Conor Flaherty for UL forced extra-time leaving the scores deadlocked at 0-25 to 2-19.

Galway senior football goalkeeper Flaherty played in yesterday's Sigerson Cup final for UL, who were beaten by NUIG.

The same two colleges will clash in the Fitzgibbon showpiece following UL's resilient finish.

Seamus Casey's strick a first half goal for IT Carlow, but the teams went in level at the interval, 0-14 to 1-11.

After the restart UL edged ahead, but IT Carlow responded with Marty Kavanagh's goal steering them in front.

UL, though, replied with Flaherty's effort ensuring extra-time with Kiely providing the decisive blow.

On Saturday at IT Carlow the Fitzgibbon Cup final will be contested by UL and NUIG, who overcame GMIT on Wednesday.
