Bord Na Mona Walsh Cup

DUBLIN 2-21 CARLOW 1-16

Mattie Kenny's first match in charge of Dublin ended with a victory against Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Galway native Kenny, who guided Cuala to two AIB All Ireland club crowns, named an experimental outfit for the game with an opportunistic Eamonn Dillon goal in the 12th minute providing an encouraging start.

Carlow, though, were gritty during the first half and were back on level terms as the interval approached, but a couple of John Hetherton frees ensured the visitors led 1-8 to 0-9 at the turnaround.

After the restart Carlow's Ted Joyce pounced for a goal, but Fintan McGibb's major for Dublin was a key score as Kenny's team earned the spoils.
