Dublin and Wexford to meet in Walsh Cup final

Eamon Dillon celebrates scoring a goal for Dublin

Dublin and Wexford will meet in the 2016 Bord Na Móna Walsh Cup final at Croke Park next Saturday following semi-final wins on Sunday afternoon.

The final will throw-in at 5pm on Saturday, January 30 and will serve as a curtain-raiser for the Allianz Football League game between Dublin and Kerry.

Dublin enjoyed a 1-28 to 1-19 victory over Galway at Parnell Park, where the Dubs gained a small measure of revenge over the Tribesman, who beat them in the Leinster Championship last summer and in the Fenway Classic in Boston.

Dublin dominated the early stages of the game, moving 0-4 to 0-0 ahead after nine minutes, but Galway worked their way back into the game and David Burke leveled matters in the 32nd minute (0-12 to 1-9) with a soft goal following a mistake by Dublin goalkeeper Conor Dooley.

An Eamon Dillon goal four minutes after the restart gave the Dubs a cushion they built on over the remainder of the half, with Dillon and free-taker David Treacy (0-12) standing out in a smart performance from Ger Cunningham's side.

Wexford, meanwhile, enjoyed a 0-14 to 0-6 win over Offaly at O'Kennedy Park in New Ross.

Liam Dunne's side played with the wind in the first half and led by 0-10 to 0-3 at the break, having built a 0-9 to 0-0 advantage after 26 minutes before Shane Dooley threw the Faithful men a lifeline with a couple of late scores.

While Dooley battled valiantly for Offaly, Wexford had established enough of a lead - thanks largely to the expert free-taking of Harry Kehoe (0-8) to see them home and into a final at Croke Park in six days' time.
