Last Saturday, August 21, saw the hosting of the Western Regional Festival Finals day of this years National U15 Táin Óg competitions, at two separate venues around the province.

In the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, clubs Claremorris, Westport and Longford Slashers came together to play out the Cup competition. At the end after the round robin series, Claremorris came out on top while Longford Slashers claimed the second place prize on the day. The blitz was refereed by Thaigh Morley (Mayo) and coordinated by Adrian Hession (Mayo GAA Games Promotion Officer).

In the Shield decider held in the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden, the local side Coolera/Strandhill went head-to-head with Tooreen from Mayo. After a closely fought encounter, it was the Mayo side who came out on top on a 5-6 to 2-6 score line. This game was refereed by Charlie Candon (Roscommon) with Daragh Cox (Sligo GAA Games Promotion Officer) on coordination duties.
