Bone infection threatens Callanan's championship involvement

A bone infection is threatening Seamus Callanan's involvment in the 2022 All-Ireland Championship.

Tipperary hurling team manager, Colm Bonnar, has revealed that Seamus Callanan is in a race against time to play any part in the Premier county’s championship campaign this year.

The 2019 Hurler of the Year suffered a broken bone in his hand five weeks ago and the injury has now been complicated by an infection.

“In Seamie's case, it's a bit of a nightmare for him because the infection now is gone into the bone so it is going to be a bit longer in terms of trying to manage that injury that he got,” said Bonnar.

“That was bad enough but the infection has carried through now. It's going to be very difficult for him."

Denis Maher is Tipperary’s only other injury concern for Sunday’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship first round clash with Waterford.

The Thurles Sarsfields club-man has a hip flexor injury that has limited his training in the last 10 days.
