Pat Kilcoyne’s passion for Gaelic Football endures.

A popular goalkeeper for Sligo during the 90s, Kilcoyne is now a Games Promotion Officer in the county.

Last week’s news that schools would shut due to Covid 19 continues to have a significant impact, but Sligo GAA reacted promptly.

Liam Og Gormley, Games Development Manager for Sligo GAA, summoned the staff for a meeting. “We all decided that we would work with an age group,” Kilcoyne says about the decision to send coaching videos to club managers throughout Sligo.

“I'm working with the Under 10s for all of the club managers. I send them out a video of the skills so they can send on to the parents of the kids to do while they are off school. There will be long days now for a few weeks ahead.

“The clips are going out to all club managers, who send them on to all of the parents of the children playing Under 10. I just put it up on Twitter then for other people to see and they can do it in their clubs.”

Unsurprisingly the reaction has been positive with Monday morning’s brief trip to the supermarket earning favourable reviews from local parents.

“I was only down in the town, three or four mothers came up to me saying 'I was a great man on this video, the kids are all out practicing’,” Kilcoyne laughs.

“That is what it is for. The kids will have plenty of time doing housework or little exercises at home. I'm sure teachers are sending them out stuff, it is just to keep them going.

"Parents are only mad to get them doing activities at home because it is a long day with no school.”
