UL cruised to a convincing 4-10 to 1-4 win over SETU Carlow.

Ciarán Downes struck two goals for Declan Brouder's outfit, who were always in control.

Prompted by the excellent Paul Keaney and Emmet McMahon, UL went in 0-7 to 0-2 ahead at the interval.

Seán McDonnell and Aaron Griffin also notched goals for UL, who advanced to the quarter-final stage with the minimum of fuss.

MTU Cork knocked out ATU Sligo, eventually emerging 3-12 to 2-7 victors.

A lively first half featured two goals from St Loman's Fola Ayorinde for ATU Sligo with Dylan O'Connor netting for MTU Cork.

The teams went in level at the break, 1-7 to 2-4, but MTU Cork edged it after the restart.

Eanna O'Hanlon and David O'Connor grabbed vital goals for MTU Cork, who reached the last eight of the competition.
